Udaipur : Lake Pichola
The Vibe:The city makes sense only from the water.
Dug in 1362, long before the palaces that now line it, this artificial lake shaped where Udaipur was built and how it grew. Its islands hold Jag Niwas and Jagmandir, both later royal retreats.
Oars and small motors replace traffic noise once you push off from the ghats. Late in the day the water turns copper and the palace walls double in the reflection.
