Q: What should we book in advance?

Book the balloon safari, the leopard safari and Chokhi Dhani ahead of time. Safari jeeps run in fixed slots and sell out, and the balloon flight needs a confirmed sunrise seat. Forts and museums can be done same-day.

Q: How long should we plan for the big sights?

Two to three hours for Amber Fort, about an hour for a museum, and a full evening for Chokhi Dhani. Two big sights in one day is plenty with children.

Q: Are strollers useful? What about getting around?

Strollers are hard work at forts — cobbles, ramps and steps. A carrier is better for under-threes. Book a car with a driver for the day rather than hailing autos with kids; it gives you a cool place to return to between stops.

Q: What goes in the day bag?

Water, hats, sunscreen, wet wipes, snacks and a spare T-shirt. Add socks — several temples ask you to leave shoes outside. Small notes are handy for street snacks and toilets.

Raj Mandir Cinema

Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing

Housed in a restored haveli in Amer, this museum documents hand block printing as a living craft rather than a heritage curiosity. It was set up by the textile company whose name it carries.
