HOW TO CHOOSE A HOTEL IN Jaipur New
The walled Old City is compact enough to walk, but everything else is spread across a modern grid. Amer Fort sits 11 km north, the airport 13 km south, and traffic can double a 20-minute drive in the evening.
Pick one base and treat the rest as day trips — Jaipur rewards short, frequent hops more than long transfers.

The Metro Pink Line runs 11 stations from Mansarovar to Badi Chaupar, 6am to 10pm, at ₹10–30. Badi Chaupar puts you beside Hawa Mahal and the City Palace, but the line misses Amer, the airport and most southern hotels. - Walkability
Johari Bazaar, Hawa Mahal and Jantar Mantar link on foot in one loop. Outside the walls, pavements thin out and crossings get busy, so most journeys need wheels. - Taxis / ride-hail
Uber, Ola and Rapido all work well, with short city hops around ₹100–150. Metered autos start at ₹26 and run ₹17.14 per km, though drivers in tourist zones prefer a flat quote. A car with driver for a full sightseeing day runs ₹2,000–2,500.

For a first visit, base yourself in C-Scheme or MI Road — you are 10 minutes from the Old City gates and 25 from the airport. If you want Amer Fort before the coaches arrive, move one night to a Delhi Road resort rather than driving out at dawn.
