GOA : St. Cajetan's Church
Operating Hours:Monday - Sunday: 09:00 - 17:30
The Vibe:A small St. Peter's, tucked behind the crowds.
Built by Italian friars of the Theatine order in the seventeenth century, this domed church was modelled on St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and stands apart from the Portuguese churches around it.
A Corinthian facade and a central dome open onto a plain, well-lit interior. Far fewer visitors come this way, so the space stays quiet through the day.
- Part of the Churches and Convents of Goa UNESCO World Heritage Site
- Modelled on St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, unusually among Goa's churches
- Built by Italian Theatine friars rather than Portuguese orders
- Consistently described by visitors as the calmest of the Old Goa churches

- Gilded altarpieces in the side chapels
- A covered well beneath the nave, thought to predate the church — Hidden Gem

- Within the Old Goa complex, a five-minute walk from Se Cathedral toward the Viceroy's Arch.
- Same access as the rest of Old Goa — around 10 km east of Panjim by bus or taxi.
- Entry is through the main west door from the churchyard; there is no ticket desk.

Insider Tips
Visit last in an Old Goa loop, when the coach groups have moved on.
The dome interior is best seen in the middle of the day, when light reaches the drum windows.
Walk on to the Viceroy's Arch and the river from here rather than doubling back.
Photography Tips
The symmetrical facade needs a straight-on position from the churchyard gate.
Interior light is low; avoid flash and check whether a service is running.
