The Vibe:Yellow soil, one battle, and a horse.

Maharana Pratap met Akbar's forces in this mountain pass in 1576. The soil runs turmeric-yellow, which gives the place its name, and Pratap's horse Chetak is memorialised where he is said to have died carrying his wounded rider clear.
A narrow pass between low hills, with the yellow ground obvious underfoot. It is quiet enough that the scale of the site feels smaller than its reputation.

  • Site of the 1576 battle between Maharana Pratap and Akbar's forces
  • The name derives from the turmeric-coloured soil of the pass
  • The Maharana Pratap museum holds armour, weapons and battle dioramas
  • The pass itself is open ground with no entry charge

Fit For

  • 👨‍👩‍👧 Families: "Dioramas and armour make the battle legible for children."
  • 🌍 Culture travellers: "The event Mewar identity is still built around."
  • 💕 Couples: "A short stop on the northern circuit, with hill views."
  • 🧳 Solo: "Quiet and quick, unlike the temples either side of it."

Highlights

  • The Maharana Pratap and Chetak statue — the site's focal monument
  • The battle dioramas in the museum — the clearest telling of the 1576 engagement
  • Armour and weapons attributed to Pratap, including his reputed lance
  • Chetak's memorial, marking where the horse is said to have fallen
  • The yellow soil of the pass itself, which gives the place its name — Hidden Gem
