Commissioned by Shah Jahan in 1632 as a mausoleum for Mumtaz Mahal, completed over two decades in white marble and inlaid stone. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.
The marble shifts from pink through white to gold as the sun moves. Sound drops noticeably once you pass the great gate into the garden.
