The Vibe:A sacred lake, ringed by ghats and temples.

One of India's oldest pilgrimage towns, built around a lake said to have formed where Brahma dropped a lotus. It holds one of the very few temples in the world where Brahma is actively worshipped.
Bells and chanting carry across still water from ghats on every side. Narrow bazaar lanes behind them smell of incense, marigold and frying snacks.

  • Home to the Jagatpita Brahma Mandir, among the very few active Brahma temples anywhere
  • Pushkar Lake is ringed by fifty-two ghats used for ritual bathing
  • The town hosts the annual Pushkar Camel Fair, one of India's largest livestock fairs
  • A long-established stop on the international backpacking circuit through Rajasthan
