The Vibe:A sacred canyon, alive with monkeys.

Set in a gorge in the Aravalli hills east of the walled city, this eighteenth-century pilgrimage complex grew around natural springs. It is named for the sage Galav and remains an active site of worship, not a museum.
Water drips steadily into stone tanks while troops of macaques move across the rooftops. Pink sandstone pavilions close in on both sides, muting the city entirely.

  • An eighteenth-century pilgrimage site built around natural spring-fed kunds
  • Widely described by visitors as Jaipur's most atmospheric temple complex
  • Entry and camera charges were removed following a government-led restoration
  • Frequently listed among Jaipur's most photogenic locations by travel media

Fit For

  • 🌍 Culture travellers: "An active pilgrimage site rather than a preserved monument."
  • 📸 Photographers: "Layered sandstone pavilions and dramatic canyon light."
  • 🧳 Solo: "Calm and unhurried compared with the walled-city monuments."
  • 👩‍👧 Families: "Children enjoy the monkeys, but supervision is essential."

Highlights

  • The sacred kunds - spring-fed tanks where pilgrims still bathe
  • Galtaji temple pavilions carved into the narrow gorge walls
  • The resident macaque troops that give the site its popular name
  • The Surya Temple on the ridge above, reached by a stepped climb - Hidden Gem
  • Painted ceilings and pillared halls that survive from the eighteenth century
