Delhi: Aravali Biodiversity Park
Operating Hours:Monday - Sunday: 06:00 - 11:00. Monday - Sunday: 15:30 - 18:00
The Vibe:Restored Aravalli scrub, and almost nobody in it.
A restoration project on mined-out Aravalli land in Vasant Kunj, replanted with native species to rebuild the ridge habitat rather than landscape it as a park.
Rocky, open scrub rather than closed canopy, with birdsong carrying a long way across it.
- A habitat restoration project on formerly mined Aravalli land
- Planted with native ridge species rather than ornamental stock
- Nilgai, foxes, peacocks and a wide range of birds are regularly recorded
- Free entry with no ticket or booking
Fit For
- 🦜 Birdwatchers: "Native scrub habitat, and you will often have it entirely to yourself."
- 🥾 Walkers: "Winding tracks across open rocky ground rather than a paved loop."
- 🧳 Solo: "Genuinely quiet — expect to see guards and little else."
- 📸 Photographers: "Aravalli rock and scrub, a different Delhi landscape altogether."
Highlights
- Restored native Aravalli scrub, distinct from Delhi's planted parkland
- Winding tracks across open rocky terrain with long sightlines
- Nilgai, foxes, peacocks, mynas and squirrels regularly seen
- Rocky outcrops giving a sense of the original ridge landscape
- Almost complete absence of other visitors, even at weekends — Hidden Gem
- Vasant Vihar and Chhatarpur are the nearest metro stations, both requiring an onward ride
- The main gate is on the Vasant Kunj side, with a second gate on the far perimeter
- No ticket or booking — walk in during the opening windows
- Note the midday closure between the two windows
Food & Coffee Shops
Nothing on site or immediately outside
Vasant Kunj's malls are the nearest reliable option, a short drive away
Vasant Vihar market has cafes a similar distance
Carry water, particularly in the morning window
Insider Tips
The early window is much the better of the two for wildlife and for temperature
Carry water — there is genuinely nothing available inside
Wear proper shoes; the tracks are rough and crumbling in sections
Winter mornings give the best birding of the year
It is possible to walk right through and exit the far gate rather than doubling back
Photography Tips
Open scrub means long sightlines — a telephoto earns its place here
First light across the rocky ground is the strongest condition
Nilgai and foxes are shy; approach slowly and expect to wait
Midday light on open scrub is harsh and worth avoiding entirely
