- Pickup runs between 2 and 3 am from southern Bali; allow for a long, mostly silent drive in.
- The pre-dawn temperature on the lava field drops sharply; jackets and beanies are essential.
- Bring a smaller bag rather than a rucksack; jeep cabins are compact and shared with two to three other guests.
- Photography conditions peak in the 15 minutes either side of sunrise; have the camera ready before stopping.
- Restrooms are limited to the breakfast viewpoint and base village; plan accordingly.
