Phuket : Beaches
Phuket's western and southern coastlines hold the island's swimmable beaches, each with a distinct character. Options range from developed resort strips with full facilities to secluded coves accessible only by boat or jungle trail.
- Banana Beach: A small hidden cove on the northwest coast, reached by a short trail through the forest. Quiet and undeveloped.
- Bang Tao Beach: One of Phuket's longest beaches at five kilometres. The northern section hosts luxury resorts; the southern end retains a local fishing-village feel.
- Freedom Beach: A sheltered crescent of white sand south of Patong, accessible by longtail boat or a steep hillside path. Limited development keeps crowds low.
- Karon Beach: A wide, long beach with soft sand and clear water. Less developed than Patong, with a relaxed atmosphere suited to families and couples.
- Kata Beach: A mid-sized beach popular with surfers in low season and families in high season. Restaurants and shops line the road behind the sand.
- Nai Harn Beach: A crescent-shaped beach backed by hills and a lagoon in Phuket's south. Regarded by residents as one of the island's most attractive beaches.
- Patong Beach: Phuket's busiest and most developed beach at three kilometres. The centre of the island's nightlife, dining and shopping.
- Mai Khao Beach: Phuket's northernmost and longest beach, bordering Sirinat National Park. Quiet and largely undeveloped, with nesting sea turtles between January and March.
- Kata Noi Beach: A smaller, more exclusive beach just south of Kata. Flanked by hills with limited hotel access, offering a calmer alternative.
