Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers turned the museum inside out in 1977, hanging its pipes on the façade. It holds Europe's largest modern-art collection and is closed for renovation until 2030.
The primary-coloured ducts and the caterpillar escalator still define the Beaubourg skyline. The piazza out front stays lively with street performers and the Stravinsky Fountain nearby.
