Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese

A Grade II-listed Fleet Street pub rebuilt in 1667 after the Great Fire. The sprawling wood-panelled interior extends over four levels, with vaulted cellars thought to date from a 13th-century Carmelite monastery. Literary regulars included Dickens, Mark Twain and G. K. Chesterton. Owned by Samuel Smith's Old Brewery, it is on CAMRA's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors.

The Market Porter
Snapshot
A Victorian corner pub opposite Borough Market and one of only two remaining London early houses. It opens at 06:00 on weekdays for market workers, night-shift staff and hospital workers. Twelve handpumps pour changing real ales including Harvey's Sussex Best and Portobello Market Porter. The building doubled as Harry Potter's Third Hand Book Emporium in Prisoner of Azkaban.

The Fitzroy Tavern
Snapshot
A late-Victorian corner pub on Charlotte Street that gave its name to the Fitzrovia neighbourhood. Under licensee Judah 'Pop' Kleinfeld from 1919, it became a bohemian meeting place for George Orwell, Dylan Thomas, Augustus John and Nina Hamnett. An award-winning Samuel Smith's restoration retained etched glass, snob screens, mahogany partitions and tiling. It won the 2017 CAMRA Pub Design Award for refurbishment.

The Good Mixer

A 1950s Camden Town pub on Inverness Street that became the epicentre of the Britpop scene. Blur, Oasis, Elastica, Pulp and Amy Winehouse were regulars. The pub is where Noel Gallagher reportedly met Graham Coxon, sparking the Blur-Oasis feud. A two-bar layout, pool tables and jukebox remain. Live music continues most Thursdays and Sundays with DJs on Fridays and Saturdays.

The Churchill Arms

A Fuller's pub dating to 1750 on Kensington Church Street, famous for its floral exterior. The pub spends tens of thousands of pounds each year on over a hundred flower pots, window boxes and hanging baskets, swapped for Christmas trees in winter. A Thai kitchen at the rear, in operation for over 35 years, is credited as London's first pub Thai restaurant.
