GOA : Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary
The Vibe:Mangrove channels, and a heron at dawn.
Named after India's best-known ornithologist, this mangrove reserve occupies the western tip of Chorao Island in the Mandovi. It is Goa's principal protected wetland.
Mangrove roots arch out of brackish water along narrow channels. At first light the noise is entirely birds; by mid-morning it has largely stopped.
