Bangkok is vast and traffic-bound — the area you choose shapes your trip more than the hotel itself.

HOW TO CHOOSE A HOTEL IN Bangkok

HOW IMPORTANT IS
THE LOCATION?

Bangkok sprawls across more than 30 districts, and crossing town can take 45 minutes by taxi at the wrong hour. The BTS Skytrain and MRT subway cover the central tourist belt well, but skip the historic Old Town entirely.

Pick an area near a Skytrain or MRT stop unless you plan to base yourself by the river.

  • Public transport
The BTS Skytrain and MRT subway cover Sukhumvit, Silom, Sathorn, Siam, and Chatuchak. Old Town and Khao San need a taxi or boat.
  • Walkability
Heat, broken pavements, and overhead expressways limit walking. Siam, Old Town, and parts of Silom are the friendliest stretches.
  • Taxis / ride-hail
Grab and Bolt are reliable. Metered taxis are cheaper but inconsistent on traffic and meters. A private driver runs around US$45–75 for half a day.
