Local Bazaars & Flea Markets

Bali : Local Bazaars & Flea Markets

Bali’s traditional markets operate on a different rhythm from its malls and boutiques. Prices are negotiable. Stock changes daily. Some stalls sell to tourists; others sell to the Balinese families who come before dawn for temple offerings and fresh produce. The five markets below range from well-known tourist markets to working local bazaars, and knowing which is which before you arrive determines whether you enjoy the experience. Travjoy’s selections include both types.

Which Market Suits Your Style?

  • Want evening street food and a local vibe? → Sindhu Night Market — Sanur, opens at dusk, mostly locals.
  • Want handicrafts and souvenirs in a central Ubud location? → Ubud Art Market — opposite the Royal Palace, bargain hard.
  • Want to see a real working Balinese market? → Badung Market — Denpasar, multi-storey, pre-dawn start for the full experience.
  • Shopping for art and crafts at better-than-Ubud prices? → Sukawati Art Market — wholesale feel, lower markups.
  • Looking specifically for textiles and ceremonial fabrics? → Sukawati Art Market Block B — sarongs, ikat, temple cloth.

If You Visit Only One — Editor’s Pick

Ubud Art Market. It is the most accessible for visitors, sits in the centre of Ubud opposite the Royal Palace, and stocks the widest range of Balinese handicrafts in one location. Go early in the morning (before 9am) when prices are lower and local sellers are more willing to negotiate — there is a Balinese belief that the first sale of the day brings good luck. If you want a less touristy experience and do not mind the drive, swap this for Badung Market in Denpasar.
