Bali : Beaches
Bali’s beaches serve different purposes. Some are surfing beaches with strong currents and no shade. Others are sheltered coves better suited to swimming and sunbathing. One is on a different island entirely. The five below cover that range, and the right choice depends on your activity, your tolerance for crowds, and how far you are willing to travel. Travjoy’s selections balance accessibility with quality of sand, water, and facilities.
Which Beach Is Right for You?
- Want easy access, surf lessons, and nightlife nearby? → Kuta Beach — central, busy, good for beginners.
- Want sunbeds, cocktails, and a sunset scene? → Seminyak Beach — beach clubs and restaurants along the shore.
- Want calmer water for swimming, away from the crowds? → Pandawa Beach — sheltered cove on the Bukit Peninsula.
- Want the dramatic cliff photo and willing to hike down? → Kelingking Beach — Nusa Penida day trip required.
- Want a compact cove with character and a surf break? → Padang Padang Beach — enter through a rock cave, small but photogenic.
If You Visit Only One — Editor’s Pick
Seminyak Beach. It offers the most complete beach day on mainland Bali — clean sand, beach clubs with loungers and food service, strong sunset views, and direct access to Seminyak’s restaurant strip afterward. Arrive mid-afternoon to claim a sunbed, stay through sunset, and walk to dinner. If you want fewer people and calmer water for actual swimming, swap this for Pandawa Beach.
